GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) — John Deere Power Products is investing an additional $15 million in its Greeneville manufacturing plant, a move that should add 25 jobs through the end of next year.

Tennessee’s Economic and Community Development (ECD) office announced the plans Thursday. The Greeneville facility will get additional capacity to make Z300 and Z500 zero-turn mowers, demand for which is projected to increase.

ECD provided some level of economic incentives for the project, a department spokesman confirmed.

“This partnership reflects Tennessee’s ongoing support of John Deere’s sustained growth and expansion of our riding lawn equipment (RLE) business in Greeneville,” factory manager Fabio Castro said in an ECD news release.

Castro said the company has been in Greeneville for more than 35 years and that customer demand for both traditional riding mowers and a new line of electric ones “supports further steady growth” that will include “modest job creation through 2025.”

ECD Commissioner Stuart McWhorter noted John Deere is Greene County’s fifth-largest employer. State Rep. David Hawk (R-Greeneville) said the factory was one of John Deere’s highest-volume plants in the country.

The plant currently employs slightly more than 600 people, a John Deere spokesperson confirmed to News Channel 11.

“Tennessee’s pro-business climate and highly skilled workforce allow companies like John Deere Power Products to find great success,” Gov. Bill Lee said.

News Channel 11 has reached out to ECD for information on any economic incentives that may have been offered to the company.
